Social media can be an incredible tool to grow your audience and increase sales of your artwork, but how do we use Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest to actually grow our audience?
One great way to connect with your ideal clientele is with custom pins and posts designed specifically for your audience. I am going to share just how can we create custom content that actually converts for each platform.
First, let’s talk about Pinterest.
Unlike the social apps, the main goal on Pinterest isn’t to connect, instead the goal is to provide the answer to your customer’s questions and aspirations. This means Pinterest is a search engine you will need to get into the mind of your customer.
What could you include in your pin that would answer their search query? Research popular topics and trends on Pinterest here or consider holidays or events that are coming up. Check out an example below.
Ex: Imagine you are pinning painted ornaments before Christmas. The client could have searched holiday gifts or Christmas décor, and both could bring up your ornaments as a response. You will want to include those keywords in your title or description.
So how do we incorporate custom pins? First, custom pins are the perfect way to create custom and original content, which is a great way to build your audience. Second, you can overlay text to make your pins stand out in your follower’s feed. For example, if you are linking to a blog post you wrote about hanging a gallery wall your pin could be a photo with text overlaid that says “5 Tips to Hang Your First Gallery Wall.” This will result in more saves because the follower can read exactly what the pin link to. Third, custom pins can be created to fit your specific branding and improve the look of your Pinterest boards.
What about Instagram and Facebook? These platforms are all about connecting with your audience. Custom content could look like a quote, a question, or any other photo that could generate a reaction from your clients. Custom content is a great way to reengage followers. If you are posting artwork every day, use custom content to showcase your blog, a customer success story, and more!
Now that we understand why we want to use custom content on each platform, let's consider an example. Pretend you create three custom posts linking to your blog post “5 Tips to Hang Your First Gallery Wall.” A Pin could drive customers wanting to hang their first gallery wall to your blog. Your Instagram caption could share a short story about a recent gallery wall you put together for a client and encourage followers to hire you. Finally, your Facebook post could pose the question, "How many of you have destroyed your wall trying to hang a gallery wall?" It would encourage conversation and drive those customers to hire you or read your post. Each uses the same content, but in three unique ways.
This all sounds great, but how do we create custom posts and pins without hiring a graphic designer or wasting all of our time? - Consider current trends that you could tap into to expand your audience
- Use a limited number of pins and posts with the same photos and text
- Too many pins or posts with the same photos and text may result in a negative experience for followers and can cause lower distribution or even get you flagged for spam.
