"Keep Up" is inspired by a photo my friend took on her farm, on a sunny day following a rare East Tennessee snow storm. I immediately asked if I could paint it, because I was delighted by the formation of ducks crossing the road, with one in the back struggling to keep the pace. Solidarity, sister. Once I began painting, I really enjoyed pushing the color and how the warm glow of the sun on this day provided a spectrum of warm and cool purple highlights, even on a snowy day. The sun created bold shadow shapes, so as I painted I kept that in mind and tried to keep my brush strokes loose and free, with lots of movement. ...A quiet day on the farm made for art that is anything but.
