One of a series of four paintings inspired by the first-ever motion picture "The Horse in Motion".

In 1878, photographer Eadweard Muybridge was commissioned to settle a bet about whether or not horses gallop with all four hooves off the ground. His series of still photographs put together to recreate movement is now recognized as the world's first movie.
