Shelby Leigh Kizer
Shelby Leigh Kizer is a professional artist currently residing in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Unlike most artists, the skill of drawing has never been her strong suit. In elementary school, she loved art, but as she got older she started to think that her art wasn't good enough, because she couldn't draw as well as her peers. She put down art entirely for almost 10 years until her junior year of college. Desperate to find her calling, she took a drawing class. The way she was taught to draw and understand art was unlike anything she had ever heard.
She found her love for art again, but not the art she thought she knew when she was young. She fell in love with this new version of art that allows her to scribble unapologetically, make mistakes, experiment, and create art that is unique to her.
Inspired by her life, her faith and the everyday beauty of her surroundings, her paintings are an exploration of color, expressive marks and scribbles, and the balance between what is painted on the canvas and what is left untouched.
