Meet the Artist: Cynthia Huston

While pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Science and Mathematics and moving from city to city, Cynthia Huston often escaped the world of telecommunications by painting and drawing. She enrolled in art classes with local artists, along with the Art Institute of Kansas and the University of Houston. After a successful career in technology, artist Cynthia Huston has finally returned to her true passion of art.

When Cynthia relocated and settled into Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, she was finally able to focus on painting and drawing. Inspired by the beauty of the low country, she began to experiment with the “en plein air” painting style which she finds exhilarating. She explains, “When painting outside I feel the energy from everything surrounding me and it breathes life into the paintings!” Coastal scenes such as salt marshes, boats in creeks, oyster shells on the shore, and beach-goers alike became the perfect subject of her full-time career as a painter. She captures the emotion of these scenes by using bold brush strokes, vivid colors, and contrasting shadows and light.

Cynthia has already made a name for herself in the South Carolina art community. She is a member of the Charleston Artist Guild and Oil Painters of America, and she even teaches art classes out of her home studio. Cynthia’s more traditional style adds a new dimension to our collection of artists, and we are thrilled to welcome her to The Scouted Studio!
