The Art of Friendship: A Conversation with Hayley & Delie About Her Wedding Bouquet Painting

Some collaborations turn into friendships, and some friendships lead to the most meaningful art. When I first started working with Delie Putnam through The Scouted Studio, I had no idea just how close we’d become. Over the years, we've traveled together, supported each other’s creative journeys, and shared big life milestones. One of the most special moments? Receiving a painting of my wedding bouquet from Delie. It was personal, thoughtful, and captured so much more than flowers—it held the memory of the day itself. Today, we’re reflecting on our friendship, our work, and the power of creative connection in this fun Q&A.
Hayley: I know you paint a lot of commissions, but what was it like painting something personal for a friend?
Delie: It was so special! I always put emotion into my paintings, but this felt different—like I was capturing a moment in time for you. There was definitely a little more pressure since I wanted it to be perfect, but I also let myself enjoy the process, knowing you’d appreciate it no matter what.
Hayley: I absolutely do! You paint a lot of landscapes and abstracts—do you approach florals differently?
Delie: Actually … yes! My landscapes are more intuitive, while florals require a tiny bit more structure. But I still keep my expressive, loose style, so the bouquet doesn’t feel overly rigid or realistic. It’s more about capturing the essence of the flowers rather than painting every petal perfectly.
Hayley: I am so glad that people are able to purchase your wedding bouquet commissions on The Scouted Studio website. What do they need to know when ordering one?
Delie: Oh yay! Bouquets are painted on 14”x11” archival paper with deckle edges. All I need is a couple of side photos of the bouquet which the client emails to me. And, I can usually get the art completed in a few weeks.
Having Delie paint my wedding bouquet was one of the most special gifts I’ve ever received—not just because of the art itself, but because of who it came from. Our friendship has grown alongside our careers, and it’s been so rewarding to support each other along the way. I can’t wait for our next adventure in Portugal and all the creativity it will spark.
